Motorcycle-borne persons snatch rifle from CRPF trooper in Anantnag

Two motorcycle-borne youth attacked a CRPF man with a stone at Sadoora railway station in Anantnag district on Thursday and snatched his service rifle.

This is the first of its kind attack where a stone was hurled to snatch the service rifle of a security personal.

   

Militants had in the past sprayed chilli powder and attacked the cops with machete, and even by the axe recently in Kulgam district in a bid to snatch their weapons.

A source said that two unknown persons attacked the trooper of B coy 46 BN with a stone and snatched his INSAS rifle.

“The CRPF personnel was on duty at Sadoora railway station near Dooru when the motorcycle stopped near him and one of the youths riding it hurled a stone hitting the personnel on his head. As the trooper fell down, the motorcycle borne youths snatched his rifle and managed to escape from the spot,” he said.

Soon additional reinforcement was rushed to the area to nab the attackers.

This is the second successful rifle snatching incident in the district in the month of Ramadhan. Earlier militants decamped with two rifles from cops guarding a political leader affiliated with Jammu and Kashmir Tehreek Bachao Party in Daburana village.

Last week militants forced their entry into the guard room of ancestral house of advocate general Jehangir Ahmad Ganai in Mattan in an attempt to snatch the rifles. However, the cops were unarmed .

Of late there has been sudden surge in weapon snatching incidents in the Valley.
