Teen succumbs; Shopian civilian death toll mounts to six

A teen injured during weekend’s clashes in south Kashmir’s Shopian district succumbed at SMHS hospital on Tuesday, taking the civilian death toll to six.

Quoting family and hospital sources, GNS news agency reported that Sufail Ahmad Bhat (17), son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat of Dachoo village of Nagbal passed away at the SMHS hospital.

   

Bhat, according to the report, had suffered bullet wounds in his abdomen after the government forces fired into the protesters near the site of a gunfight in Badigam village on Sunday.

Five militants and five civilians had died in the gunfight and the clashes. The slain militants included Hizb commander Saddam Padder and professor-turned-militant Muhammad Rafi Bhat.
