Man killed, 8 injured in road accidents

A man was killed while eight others sustained injuries in separate road accidents in Rajouri and Reasi districts on Monday, police said.

In Rajouri, the police said, “A car, JK12A 6789, collided with a truck, JK02AP 6225, near model orchard of Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Tandwal village, about three kilometers from Rajouri.”

   

As a result, five members of a family travelling in the car sustained injuries, police said, adding that they were shifted to district hospital, Rajouri, for treatment, where one among them, identified as 70-year-old Romesh Chander, son of Yog Raj and a resident of Surankote, was declared as brought dead.

They further said that three among the injured were referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, for advanced treatment. The injured have been identified as Naresh Kumari, Geeta Devi, Anita Devi and Rahul Kumar.

“Both the vehicles were seized, but the truck driver escaped from the spot. An Fir has been registered and we are investigating the case further,” a police officer said.

Meanwhile, one of the injured, Rahul Kumar, allegedly smashed some windows and doors of the district hospital, alleging non-availability of proper medical treatment at the hospital.

In Reasi district, four persons suffered injuries after an auto-rickshaw, JK20 0431, hit a parked Winger, JK20 2696, at Banganga road, police said, adding that the injured were shifted to community health centre, Katra.

The injured have been identified as 37-year-old Ashwani Kumar, 40-year-old Chanchala Devi, 45-year-old Veer Devi and 42-year-old Darshan Lal.

An FIR has been registered and police are investigating the case further.
