Australia paceman Jhye Richardson out of World Cup, Kane Richardson called up as replacement

Australian fast bowler Jhye Richardson was ruled out of the World Cup Wednesday after failing to recover from a dislocated shoulder, with namesake Kane Richardson replacing him.

He picked up the injury during Australia’s series againstPakistan in the United Arab Emirates in March, but was included in the squadfor the World Cup in England starting later this month.

But recent tests showed he would not be ready in time.

“This is obviously very disappointing news for the team andfor Jhye, who has been exceptional throughout his rehabilitation process,” saidteam physiotherapist David Beakley.

“After his most recent assessment and attempting to bowl inthe nets, it was clear that Jhye was not progressing as fast as required.

“Therefore, in consultation with selectors, we made thedecision to withdraw him from the squad.”

Kane Richardson was called up to replace him, with long-timepace spearhead Josh Hazlewood, who has been put of action since January with aback injury, overlooked.

When the squad was announced last month, chief selectorTrevor Hohns said the focus was on having Hazlewood ready for the Ashes Testseries in England which begins in August.

He was instead named in Australia’s one-day A squad, whichwill play games in England while the World Cup is on.Australia World Cup squad: Aaron Finch (capt),Usman Khawaja, David Warner, Steve Smith, Shaun Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, MarcusStoinis, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Kane Richardson, NathanCoulter-Nile, Jason Behrendorff, Nathan Lyon, Adam Zampa.
