Dr Muhammad Ali Matto laid to rest

Dr Muhammad Ali Matto, brother-in-law of National Conference President Farooq Abdullah, who passed away here on Sunday evening was laid to rest today.

Matto’s Nimaz-e-Jinaza was held in the morning and he waslaid to rest at Ziarat Bahauddin Ganj Baksh graveyard.

   

However, in view of the prevailing situation owing tooutbreak of COVID19, the burial and later condolence meeting at Matto’sresidence was kept low-key, with only close relatives taking part.

Family sources said less than 20 people participated inMatoo’s funeral while some people were part of the condolence meeting at hisresidence later. The NC President, and Vice President, Omar Abdullahparticipated in the funeral prayers of Dr. Matto.

Taking to Twitter, Matto’s daughter, Dr Nyla Ali Khan said:”My parents’ have large families and several well-wishers. We are aware thatall of you are with us in spirit.  Atthis difficult time, we urge everyone to exercise caution and not feelcompelled to be at my father’s funeral prayer ceremony tomorrow morning.”

Meanwhile, several parties offered condolences to thebereaved family. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders expressed grief overMatto’s demise. The party Presdient Mehbooba Mufti, whose Twitter handle isbeing operated by her daughter Iltija and continues to be detained, alsoexpressed her condolences over the bereavement.

Among the PDP leaders who condoled the demise include AbdulHameed Kosheen , Arif Laigroo, Haji Parvaiz Ahmad, Rouf Bhat, Nazir Khan, DrAli Muhammad, Qayoom Bhat, Mohsin Qayoom, Bashir Beigh, Yaseen Dar, MuhammadShafi and Manzoor Dar.

“In this hour of grief we extend heartfelt condolences tothe bereaved family, friends and acquaintances. May Almighty Allah granteternal peace to the departed soul,” said the PDP leaders said in a statement.

Awami National Conference General Secretary, Muhammad Shafi,in a statement issued, said the party condoles the demise of Dr Matto andconveyed heartfelt condolences to Suriaya Ali Matto, his daughter and thefamily.

The condolences were offered to Begum Khalida Shah, FarooqAbdullah, Mustafa Kamal, Muzzafar Shah, Omar Abdullah, Abdul Majeed Matoo,Farooq Matoo and their families.

“We pray to Almighty for peace to the departed soul andcourage to the family including Suriya Matoo, Dr Nyla Ali Khan, Dr Faisal Khanand Iman Khan, to bear the irreparable loss,” the statement said.

J&K Congress also condoled the demise and conveyeddeepest condolences to bereaved family. The party President, G A Mir expressedprofound grief over the demise and conveyed deepest condolences to bereavedfamily.

He described the deceased as a noble soul, praising theservices he rendered to the society.

CPI (M) leader MY Taragami expressed grief over the demise.In his condolence message Tarigami termed the deceased a pious and gentlemanwho was known for his social and philanthropic activities.

In his condolence message, Chairman, Peoples DemocraticFront, Hakeem Yaseen conveyed his sympathies with the bereaved family. He alsoprayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
