People of the white cane

White cane can be seen as an extension of a blind’s fingers. It enables him to travel to and from work and to play his part as a citizen. The white cane has become a symbol of freedom, independence and confidence. The white cane is a symbol of blindness and independence. The individual that walks with assurance with his white cane is comfortable with blindness. International white cane day is observed every October 15. The day is observed world wide to recognize the movement of blind people from dependency to full participation in society. White cane safety day is intended to make everyone aware of the significance of a white cane and to encourage people specially motorists, to take extra care when they see someone with a white cane. The day also represents celebration of the achievements of the blind and visually impaired and offers the chance to educate and raise awareness of the blind and visually impaired. The prime importance of a white cane is it aids its user to scan their surroundings for obstacles or orientation marks. A white cane alerts the rest of the world that the person holding it has difficulty seeing. This may encourage others to offer assistance, give more leeway in crowds etc . Despite technological advances, the White Cane continues to be an essential tool for millions of people who are blind or visually impaired to be able to travel independently and safely. It symbolizes self reliance and accomplishments.
