Srinagar boat tragedy: Tariq Karra extends condolences to bereaved families; demands accountability over non-completion of footbridge

Srinagar, April 16: Congress Working Committee member and former MP, Tariq Hameed Karra on Tuesday expressed a deep sorrow over the tragic incident that took place in Srinagar’s Gandbal early morning today.

While extending his condolences to the families of deceased Karra said that “the unfortunate incident has raised pertinent questions about the safety measures in place, particularly given the recent swelling of the river due to continuous rainfall in Kashmir.”

In a statement, Karra asked for accountability, saying there is an absence of personnel overseeing the places at rivers used by locals to cross to the other side.

The incident has shed light on the urgent requirement for enhanced safety protocols along the riverbanks, especially during periods of heightened water levels, said Karra.

Furthermore, Karra voiced concerns regarding the incomplete footbridge that is under construction for last 15-years.

In fact accountability should be fixed for it’s non-completion for such a long time, he said.

“The delay in the construction of the footbridge has left locals with limited options for safe passage, exacerbating the risks associated with river travel,” noted Karra.
