2-day book exhibition by DSEK inaugurated

A two day book exhibition was inaugurated by minister for Education Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari at SP Hr Secondary School here today.

The two day exhibition has been organized by Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK). Secretary School Education, Farooq Ahmad Shah, deputy commissioner Srinagar, Dr Syed Abid Rashid Shah, director School Education, Dr GN Itoo, director RMSA, Tufail Mattoo, director Academics, JKBOSE, Dr Farooq Ahmad Peer and  Chief Education Officer Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Dar were present on the occasion.

   

On the occasion, Bukhari said, “the main purpose of organizing such events is to revive book reading that has taken a back seat due to technological advancement. Our aim is that students should acquire knowledge of their culture and place first”.

The minister was also apprised about the ongoing developments in context of infrastructure in Education department over the years by showcasing the work of education department in the exhibition.

He said that “no shortage of teachers in schools across the state will be witnessed from this academic session as Education department has started process to fulfill the vacant posts of teachers in various schools.” 

The minister announced that incentives will be increased for those teachers who opt for the schools in far-flung areas while as there will be the salary cut for the teachers who opt for posting in Srinagar and Jammu districts. He said this step will be taken in the interest of the children studying in schools in far-flung areas.

He congratulated the students who have shown better performance in the recently declared results of Matric and 10+2. “Students only need opportunity and platform where they can showcase their talent and Education department is dedicated and working hard to provide such platform to the students,” he said. 

On the occasion, books on discount were also sold in 60 different stalls. The two day exhibition will include an interactive session between librarians, students and their parents to boost the book reading culture    

On the sidelines of inaugural function of the two day event, a book authored by director Academics, JKBOSE Dr. Farooq Ahmed Peer was also released. The book is titled “A Critical Study on the Novels of Chinua Achebe  and  Wole  Soyinka”.

 The foreword of the book has been written by Dr. Shah Faesel. “It is a critical study on the novels of two African writers and will benefit the students of English and other fields in a great deal. The book is based on the novels of African writers which highlight the onslaught of colonialism which African countries have experienced,” Peer told Greater Kashmir.     

To mention, Dr Peer has written more than 100 articles on different issues particularly on education in the various dailies of the state. He has also written articles which have been published in international journals.

Later, Education minister distributed cash prizes and trophies among the students who were adjudged the top three positions holders in Snow Art contest 2017 which was organized by Directorate of School Education.
