DOWNTOWN TEENAGE BOY’S KILLING: Court reserves order on accused police driver’s bail application

A local court here today reserved order on bail application of a police driver whose is accused of crushing to death a youth by his armoured vehicle at Safa Kadal area of Downtown on 5 May.  

Police had earlier told court of chief judicial magistrate Srinagar that it had identified the police vehicle that had mowed down Adil Ahmed Yadoo of Safa Kadal here and arrested its driver.

   

Advocate Bashir Siddiq, who represents the victim family in the case, opposed the bail application.

He submitted that “the deliberate and intentional action of the accused which he knew was going to cause the death of victim falls within the definition of murder.”

“The viral video has shocked the entire society. Rejection of bail of the accused is in the interest of public at large.

Rejecting the bail will satisfy the collective consciousness of the society and as a deterrence to prevent such crimes,” he submitted.

18 year-old Adil Ahmad Yadoo was crushed to death by armoured vehicle of police at Noorbagh area during clashes against the killing of three militants in nearby Chattabal. A video had gone viral on social networking sites showing a bullet-proof vehicle passing through the teenage boy. During investigation of the case, the vehicle was identified and the driver arrested. The accused has been booked under sections 304-A RPC (causing death by negligence).
