GMC starts epidemiological survey in Chattabal

The Rapid Response Team of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar started surveillance of Chattabal locality here on Wednesday as part of epidemiological study of COVID19 in hotspots of Kashmir.

An official said a 30-member team comprising residentdoctors and interns from Community Medicine Department along with nine fieldworkers from directorate of health Kashmir visited the locality.

   

The area has reported 14 COVID19 cases, the highest inSrinagar. The area has been designated a containment zone (hotspot) by theadministration.

The teams visited several households to find COVID suspector contact, any case of influenza like illnesses (ILI) or severe acuterespiratory illnesses (SARI) for testing them. The CMO Srinagar has providing amobile sample collection vehicle specially fabricated for the purpose, said DrS Saleem Khan, head department of community and preventive medicine at the GMC.

Dr Khan is leading the team which was constituted followingdirections from Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and J&K healthand medical education department.

“The teams would make line listing of all pregnant women sothat they shall get necessary ante natal care and shall facilitate their safedelivery,” Dr Khan said.

He said the list of all infants and children would becompiled for their timely immunization for which special outreach sessionswould be conducted.

The teams will also conduct need-based assessment of personshaving chronic ailments and shall advise the people about self care and lifestyle modification in lockdown situation.
