Killing of Nishat man | Court seeks presence of witness

A local court here today directed prosecution to produce witness before it on next date of hearing in the killing of a contractor

The directions came from the Court of 4th additionalPrincipal and Sessions Court Srinagar after the prosecution witness didn’tappear before the court today.

As per records, despite passing of over a year, noprosecution witness has appeared before court to record their statements.

“The fresh directions were issued for production of witness.It has been more than a year that no prosecution witness appeared before thecourt,” said public prosecutor Sabina.

According to police investigation, Mir was abducted in 1996allegedly by Government gunman Papa Kishtwari and his four associates. The casedairy states that Mir was subsequently killed. Two among the accused are deadand another, Muhammad Maqbool, is absconding. The other two, includingKishtawari, are in Central Jail Srinagar.

In 1996, a missing report was lodged at Nishat policestation by Mir’s family members. In 2007, police claimed that Kishtwari and hisassociates killed Mir and a chargesheet was produced before the court.

The three accused Papa Kishtwari, Ghulam Rasool Ganaie aliasGulzar, and Khurshid Ahmed Ganaie, against whom FIR number 16/2007 undersection 302,364,342,120-B of RPC is registered in police station Nishat, havebeen in jail for the past 12 years.
