KU assistant professor goes missing

Kashmir University on Saturday erupted in protests after a contractual assistant professor appointed in sociology department of the varsity went missing.

The assistant professor, Muhammad Rafi Bhat, hails from Ganderbal district. 

   

According to an official in University, Bhat’s family members reported to the varsity’s chief proctor that he is missing since Friday.

The students on Saturday assembled in the campus and staged protest demanding whereabouts of the missing assistant professor.

The students later assembled outside V-C’s secretariat and staged sit-in amid slogans. 

Meanwhile, spokesman of the varsity said the vice-chancellor has written to the director general of police (DGP) and requested him to give all efforts to trace the whereabouts of the said contractual lecturer.

“The offices of the chancellor as well as the pro-chancellor have also been apprised about the matter,” he said. The spokesman said the vice chancellor met the protesting students and assured them that all efforts would be made to trace the missing lecturer.

“The university is in touch with the local police. Students are requested to maintain calm and cooperate,” he said. To mention, a student of earth science department went missing earlier this year triggering student protest in the varsity. DGP, S P Vaid said police has no information about the assistant professor of Kashmir University.

“As of now, we don’t have any information about the missing professor. But police will start search for him,” DGP said
