KWT rehabilitates 64 Chuntkul families at Rakh-e-Arth

Kashmir Welfare Trust (KWT) has rehabilitated 64 families of Chuntkul at Rakh-e-Arth here on city outskirts.

The KWT has provided them single storey concrete houses at Rakh-e-Arth. “I was living a miserable life in a shanty at Chuntkul.  KWT came to my rescue and allotted me a house at Rakh-e-Arth,” said Bashir Ahmad, one of the beneficiaries. Ahmad lives with his family comprising five family members.

KWT has constructed around 100 houses for downtrodden Dal dwellers at Rakh-e-Arth under its project Gulshan-e-Nomaan. So far, the KWT has rehabilitated over 100 families on over 40 kanals of land at Rakh-e-Arth allotted by government for rehabilitation of the downtrodden dwellers.

President KWT, Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo, said he was concerned over plight of downtrodden Dal dwellers and wanted to help them to lead a dignified life. He said the construction of the eco-friendly colony of 100 plus dwelling units was conceived in 2014. “We have twin objective of getting the water bodies like Chuntkul and other water channels free from encroachments and ensure proper rehabilitation of downtrodden flood victims. We discourage human inhabitation along waterbodies, particularly embankments and believe that public participation is a key factor in conservation of our water bodies,” Wangnoo said.

“It is only with the blessings of Almighty Allah that we are able to succeed in realising this dream project of KWT. I would like to express my gratitude to our patrons and well-wishers who encouraged us. The district administration along with J&K police has also done a good job in facilitating completion of the job. We wish the beneficiaries a happy and prosperous life in the dwelling units,” Wangnoo added.
