Silent protests held to seek justice in Kathua case

A group of activists held a silent protest here on Monday to seek punishment to the accused in rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua in January this year.

The protesters were holding placards and had gagged their mouths with tapes marked with slogans. They demanded that the culprits be brought to justice through a speedy trial.

A member of Kashmir Solidarity Forum Rayees Rasool said, “We demand immediate action should be taken against the accused and the rule of law should be allowed to prevail. In the interest of impartiality and justice, the case should be transferred outside Kathua court”.

The members of the forum said that the Bar Council of India was actively supporting “subversion of legal processes”.

Rayees said they were hopeful that the apex court would ensure speedy justice into the horrifying crime. “We stand in solidarity with the victim’s family which has also urged the government to punish the culprits,” the protestors said.
