SKIMS Medical College holds workshop on new MBBS curriculum

SKIMS Medical College Bemina today organised a workshop on new MBBS curriculum which is applicable for upcoming batch  in 2019.

An official statement said with the start of the workshop,the SKIMS Medical College is the 1st Medical College in the State with fullytrained staff for implementing the new MCI Curriculum.

   

The Principal SKIMS Medical College Bemina, Professor ReyazAhmad Untoo while inaugurating the programme that “it is very relevant totrain faculty in medical colleges to implement the new curriculum.” Hesaid SKIMS Medical College is the first institute in the state to conduct CISPworkshop for its faculty from various disciplines and basic course in medicaleducation.

Prof.Sheikh Sajjad, MEU coordinator and organizer of theprogramme informed that 30 faculty members were trained as per the MCI formatand observer from MCI was present during both the sessions. The resourcepersons for CISP were trained at MCI Nodal Centre Ludhiana. These includedProf.Sheikh Sajjad (Professor Ophthalmology), Prof Ruqiya Aziz (Professor &HOD Biochemistry), Dr J.B Singh (Associate Professor Pathology), Dr Shams-ul-Bari (Associate Professor General Surgery), Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Bhat (AssociateProfessor & I/C Community Medicine).

“The new curriculum of MBBS is competency based andstudent centred. There is more emphasis on teaching in context. There are alsochanges in examination system to make it more valid and reliable. Thecurriculum was last revised in 1997. This new curriculum has introduced earlyclinical exposures integrated teaching, electives, self directed learning andskills labs,” Prof Sajjad said in a statement.
