West Bengal woman reunited with family

A young woman from West Bengal admitted in Government Psychiatric Diseases Hospital here for two years was reunited with her family.  

In a statement, hospital authorities said the woman had been admitted on the directions of executive magistrate 1st Class and was brought to the hospital by police in January 2017 for Psychiatric Evaluation and treatment. 

   

“Initially patient was mute and did not respond to queries. A provisional diagnosis of Schizophrenia was made and the patient was put on treatment and gradually she improved. The patient could now be discharged, but the problem was that the whereabouts of the patient’s family was not known as the patient revealed that she was from West Bengal,” the statement said.  

The statement said through active efforts of the hospital staff, in particular the Hospital social worker, Sajad-ur-Rehman and PLV of district legal services authority, Athar Fayaz, the family of the patient was finally traced and informed about the woman. 

“The patient’s brother reported to this Hospital. As per her brother, the woman was missing for 13 years. The woman was finally handed over to her brother in presence of medical superintendent and other Hospital staff. Also present were secretary district legal services authority, Syed Adnan, law officer, Raheela and advocate Shaheena. “It was an emotional moment for the whole staff as the woman was reunited with her kin,” said a doctor.
