No Assembly polls in J&K big disappointment for people: Tarigami

CPI (M) senior leader M Y Tarigami on Sunday said that the announcement of Election Commission of India (ECI) that Assembly polls would not be held in Jammu and Kashmir along with Parliament polls has disappointed the people.

“This was done despite that almost all the political partieshad urged upon the Election Commission to hold both the electionssimultaneously. Not holding assembly polls will send wrong signals to peoplewithin and outside the state,” Tarigami said in a statement.

“The Chief Election Commissioner during his presser in NewDelhi repeatedly quoted recent incidents of violence in Kashmir as the reasonfor not holding Assembly polls. If that is true, then how could be Lok Sabhapolls be held? Even the J&K Governor recently said that Prime MinisterNarendra Modi complimented him for successful conduct of the civic elections inJammu and Kashmir. When these polls could be held, what is the logic fordeferring Assembly polls?” he asked.

Meanwhile National Conference leader, south- Kashmir zonePresident  and former MLC Dr Bashir AhmedVeeri on Sunday said that democratically elected government alone can restorenormalcy in the state. “A strong and stable government is key to surmountingchallenges facing to the state,” Dr Veeri said while addressing Kashmirimigrants.

Dr Veeri exuded confidence that given the support of thepeople in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, National Conference would register massivevictory in the upcoming elections. He said coalition culture is not suited tothe state that has undergone a phase of political instability in recent years. He particularly referred to the “misgoverance” of PDP-BJP dispensation duringover three years and said all segments of the society including Kashmiri migrantswere pushed to the wall. The problems faced by the displaced people aremanifold which call for focused attention for redressal, he added.
