1 dead, 7 injured as vehicles collide in Nashri tunnel

Ramban: One person was killed and seven others sustained injuries in a head-on-collision between two vehicles inside Chenani- Nashri tunnel on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Tuesday.

Police said, “A Scorpio, bearing registration number JK15- 2403, on its way to Srinagar from Jammu collided head-on with a medium size truck (TaTa 407), bearing registration no JK02AB-4094 coming from opposite
direction inside Chenani-Nashri tunnel this afternoon.”

   

“The driver of the Scorpio died on spot whereas 5 passengers of the Scorpio and two persons, including the driver of medium size truck sustained injuries in this accident,” the police added.

The injured were immediately shifted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) Chenani by the rescue teams where after providing first aid, all the injured given their critical condition, were shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu for specialized treatment.

Police identified the deceased driver of the Scorpio as Manzoor Ahmed Mir, 41, son of Ghulam Mohammed Mir, resident of Sumbalghat Sonbari in Bandipora of Kashmir. His body was kept at the CHC Chenani.

Five injured passengers of Scorpio were identified as Mohammad Yousuf, 35, son of Ghulam Mohidin, resident of Sonabari, Bandipora; Bashir Ahmed, 60, son of Ghulam Mustafa Rather, resident of Nowgam in Sonabari, Masood Ahmed, son of Abdullah Rashid; Firdous Ahmed, 25, son of Bashir Ahmed, both residents of Sumbal in Sonabari, Bandipora and Ali Mohammad 60 son of Ghulam Mohammad Mala resident of Gund in Nowgam, Bandipora.

Police identified the two injured passengers of (TaTa 407) vehicle as Sunil Singh, 29, son of Mohan Singh, resident of Digdol Ramban and Santosh Singh, 19, son of Thakur Singh, resident of Sangaldan Ramban.

Due to this accident, the vehicular traffic remained disrupted till the recovery van of NHAI removed both the accidental vehicles from the tunnel.

Police registered a case for rash and negligent driving at Police Station Batote. The police also claimed to have seized both the vehicles involved in the accident.
