140 militants killed in 7 months last year: Ahir

At least 140 militants were killed by forces in Jammu and Kashmir from June to December 2018 during which 426 stone-pelting incidents were also reported in the state, union minister Hansraj Ahir said on Wednesday.

Replying to a written question in the Rajya Sabha, he also said 119 security personnel and 16 civilians were injured in “militancy-related violence” during the period.

   

The minister of state for home said in 426 stone-pelting incidents, 34 civilians were injured.

“51 militants were killed from 25.06.2018 to 14.09.2018 and 89 militants were killed during the period 15.09.2018 to 05.12.2018 in J&K,” Ahir said, according to a statement issued by the Press Information Bureau.

Ahir said the number of security personnel killed fighting militants in Kashmir and other parts of the country guarding borders or serving their duty during last three years was 171 in 2016, 167 in 2017 and 163 (up to November) in 2018.

“Ex-gratia/compensation is paid to families of security personnel killed as per extant guidelines of CAPFs/army/state government. There is a provision of compassionate appointment to the NoK/dependent of family member of slain personnel. Financial assistance/scholarship is also given to the children of killed police personnel for their education. Further, there is a provision for installation of smarak (memorial) in school/college premises where a killed security man had studied,” the MoS for Home said.
