Civilian killed in overnight border firing; Toll 12

A civilian was killed while two others were critically injured in overnight firing on the International Border in Jammu region.

“Two brothers namely Ram DassBawa and GopalDassBawa sons of BansiLalBawa of Kanachak received grievous injures when a mortar shell landed in their house,” a police officer said.

   

“Both were shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu where Gopal DassBawa was declared brought dead while the condition of Ram Dass is stated to be critical,” the officer informed.

A woman Bimla Devi wife of BuaDitta of Kanachak received splinters injuries.

Seven civilians and five security personnel have been killed in fresh border tensions starting January 17.

“Pakistan Army opened heavy fire and shot 120 mm mortars on several forward Indian villages and posts along the International Border,” a BSF spokesperson said.

“The firing has covered whole area of Pargwal, Mad, RS Pura, Arnia and Ramgarh,” he said.
