Disaster management preparedness reviewed at 15 Corps Hq

Srinagar: A day after visiting Baltal axis and taking stock of the disaster relief preparedness for ongoing annual Amarnath Yatra, member National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lt Gen (retired) Syed Ata Hasnain Tuesday interacted with General Officer Commanding 15 Corps Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai and other officers to review preparedness along both routes of the pilgrimage.

“A review on Disaster Relief preparedness was undertaken by NDMA for Sri Amarnath #Yatra2023 where all stakeholders were present. Lt Gen SA Hasnain (Retd) erstwhile GOC Chinar Corps & Member @ndmaindia reviewed HADR preparedness along both routes of the #yatra. He also interacted with GOC, #ChinarCorps and discussed the relief preparations and contingencies,” Chinar Corps-Indian Army, on its official handle, tweeted.

   

Army officials said that review was held at headquarters of 15 Corps to discuss the relief preparations and contingencies for the ongoing Amarnath Yatra. Besides Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, several officers from formations participated in the discussion.

“Member NDMA discussed various aspects of disaster management including the incident response system; communication plan; mitigation plan; various levels of disaster management; different types of calamities and safeguards against them; role of the departments during disasters; route plan; meteorological and geographical factors besides other related aspects,” they said.

The officials said that the purpose of holding the discussion was to briefly review arrangements to ensure that the disaster preparedness plan was implemented as per the guidelines and to take feedback from different stakeholders to further improve it.

Lt Gen (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain, they said, stressed upon employing the proactive and anticipating procedure for the smooth and incident free management of Yatra.

He also advised all stakeholders to ensure that all necessary measures were put in place so that Yatris did not face any issues, especially in the event of adverse weather or natural calamity.

Pertinently, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with J&K State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) and State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) have chalked out plans in advance to meet any eventuality in case of a disaster.
