Driver killed after oil tanker falls into gorge near Jawahar tunnel

Ramban: Driver of an oil tanker died on spot after the vehicle he was driving skidded off the road and fell into a several hundred feet deep gorge near Jawahar tunnel on Srinagar- Jammu National Highway during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Police said, an oil tanker bearing registration number (JK14A-9786), carrying consignment of high speed diesel to Srinagar from Jammu went out of control from its driver and rolled down into a 400 meter deep gorge near Jawahar Tunnel, resulting in death of the driver on the spot.

   

After getting information about the accident a police team led by in charge Police Post Jawahar Tunnel rushed to the spot and after hectic efforts they retrieved the dead body of deceased driver and shifted it to Sub District Hospital Banihal for conducting postmortem and identification.

Later police identified the deceased driver as Ishar Dass son of Ram Ditta, a resident of Sehswan Kathua.

They said after conducting postmortem and other legal formalities the dead body of the deceased was handed over to his relatives for last rites. Police said the accident happened due to rash and negligent driving.

Police have registered a case under section 279/304-(A) of Indian Panel Code at Police Station Banihal for further investigations.
