In a glaring instance of administrative inertia, the government’s lethargic approach has deprived more than 30,000 families of the compensation under the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
In a shocking disclosure, the state government on Wednesday informed the Legislative Assembly that these families won’t get financial assistance under the PMNRF as the state government did not upload details of beneficiaries within the timeframe set by the Union Home Ministry.
“The left out cases having not received the financial assistance is due to the fact that the MHA vide DO No.1/1/2015/RR dated 17-03-2016 as the cut-off date for uploading the details of beneficiaries on the official website of National Disaster Management Authority. Beyond the said date, the MHA does not consider the cases for financial assistance,” minister for Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation Javaid Mustafa Mir Wednesday informed the House in a written response to cut motion of NC’s Mubarak Gul.
He said the number of left-out cases is 33786. Of which 22600 are from Kashmir province and 11276 in Jammu province.
According to the details, 14405 cases are pending in Srinagar district, 5830 in Anantnag, 580 in Budgam, 446 in Baramulla ,271 in Bandipora, 984 in Pulwama,84 in Shopian, 3237 in Jammu, 6012 in Rajouri, 832 in Samba , three in Ramban, 306 in Kathua, 220 in Reasi,495 in Udhmapur,153 in Kishtwar and 18 in Poonch.
The Minister, however, said the claims worth Rs 17.35 crore would be released for further disbursement among eligible beneficiaries in Srinagar district.
During discussions on grants of relief and rehabilitation department, legislators slammed government for the inertia.
“It was responsibility of the officers to upload details and not the affected families,” NC’s Shamima Firdous said.
