Governor seeks report on essential commodities

Governor Satya Pal Malik Wednesday issued directions to divisional commissioners of Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh, and all deputy commissioners, to expeditiously address the hardships being faced by people in the wake of recent heavy snowfall and rains.

Malik asked the deputy commissioners to personally review and ensure prompt and efficient delivery of various public services and submit action taken reports to the governor’s secretariat by the evening, especially regarding availability of dry ration, LPG, petrol and diesel, medicines, electricity and drinking water supplies and other essential commodities in the markets, an official spokesman said in a statement.

   

“He (governor) issued strict directions that immediate legal action must be taken against those indulging in unethical practices such as black marketing or hoarding of essential commodities,” the statement read, adding that the governor also directed deputy commissioners to carry out inspection of hospitals in their jurisdiction and take stock of facilities like heating system, maintenance of cleanliness and hygiene, availability of medicines, doctors and paramedical staff.

“The governor has sought regular reports regarding clearance of snow and road blockages wherever it is obstructing the movement of men and material to immediately ensure smooth flow of traffic,” the statement read.
