Home Ministry invites Kargil leaders for talks on July 1

Kargil, June 26: The Ministry of Home Affairs has invited the leaders of the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) – an amalgam of various political, social, religious and students organisations in Kargil -for a meeting in New Delhi on July Ist.

The meeting is going to be held days after an all-party meeting held by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the political leaders of Jammu and Kashmir.

KDA co-chairman Asgar Ali Karbalaie told the Greater Kashmir: “We will be meeting MoS Home G Kishen Reddy on July 1. All the leaders from Kargil who have been invited will attend the meet.”

“Our stand remains the same that is demand for a full fledged statehood for Ladakh, the matter regarding Article 370 and 35-A is with the Supreme Court where we expect a verdict that will be accepted by everyone,” Karbalaie said. He said that they will continue to fight legally for Article 370 and 35-A.

After the state of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated in 2019, J&K and Ladakh were designated as UTs, but while the former has an assembly, the latter is without one.

The Apex Body of Leh said that they will be asking for a Union Territory with a full-fledged legislature.

On the other hand Kargil Democratic Alliance have from the beginning opposed the August 5, 2019 move of abrogation of Article 370, 35-A and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir state. Kargil leaders are of the opinion that the pre-August 5, 2019 position must be restored.
