LeT behind attack: DGP

Srinagar, June 12: Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh on Saturday said that militant outfit Lashker-e-Toiba was behind the Sopore hit and run militant attack in which four persons including two cops were killed.

He also said that anti-militancy operations which were slowed down in the wake of COVID-19 have been intensified.

   

Two policemen and as many civilians were killed and at least three others injured on Saturday when militants opened fire targeting security forces in Sopore town of Baramulla district.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that LeT is behind the attack and we have even identified the attackers,” DGP told newsmen on the sidelines of a wreath laying ceremony here at District Police Lines here.

“Operation to track them down is underway,” he said, adding that there was slow pace in anti-militancy operations in wake of prevailing COVID-19 conditions. “Now we are intensifying them again.”

The Police chief informed that a police party from Sopore Police Station under the charge of sub-inspector Mukesh Kumar was deployed in the chowk for COVID-19 duties when the attack took place.
