Minister asks colleges to form ‘complaint committees’

Education minister Syed Altaf Bukhari on Thursday ordered constitution of “complaint committees” in government and private degree colleges to “look into and prevent sexual harassment of women working there.”

Chairing a meeting of senior officers, Bukhari said that constitution of such internal committees would be mandatory, an official spokesman said in a statement.

The college principals shall intimate the director colleges and nodal principals about the constitution of complaint committees, complaints received and action-taken after their disposal, the spokesman said.

Bukhari said that the department should give wide publicity to educate people about this measure, and also asked the school education department to follow the suit and constitute similar committees in high and higher secondary schools.
