No group prayers held on Friday in Kashmir

Srinagar, June 18: The Friday prayers remained suspendedin major mosques of Kashmir due to covid-19 restrictions.

The prayers were offered in small mosques, particularly in theinterior parts, and devotees were seen wearing masks and also keepingsocial distancing during the congregational prayers.

   

As usual the main doors of historicJamia Masjid in old Srinagar remained closed as no prayers have been offered there since Ramadhan whenAnjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid (AAJM) announced suspension of prayersin the wake of spurt in covid cases.

The Jammu and Kashmir Wakf Board has also announced suspension of allprayers including on Friday in about 133 shrines and other worshipplaces under its control in J&K. Therefore, no prayers wereheld in Asaar-e-Sharief, Hazratbal , which houses the holy relic ofProphet Muhammad (SAW).

Similarly, no prayers were held at the shrine of HazratMehboob-ul-Aalam, Hazrat Syed Sahib, Sonawar, Hazrat Gousal-ul-Azam atKhanyar and Sarai Bala, Khankha Moula and other shrines in Srinagar.Sources from central Kashmir district of Badgam, Ganderbalsaid no prayers were offered in main shrine, including the shrine ofHazrat Sheikh Nooruddin Wali at Charar-e-Sharie, and other worshipplaces. Similar reports were also received from south and northKashmir, where main shrines and Jamia Masjids remained closed.However, Friday prayers were offered in local mosques in Kashmir.
