Widespread snowfall from Dec 26-28: MeT

Srinagar: The Meteorological Department (MeT) has predicted cloudy weather across Jammu and Kashmir till December 24, with chances of light snowfall at scattered places in higher reaches.

However, a “greater intensity snow spell” is expected from December 26 evening till December 28 forenoon “with main activity on December 27”, MeT forecast said.

   

“Due to a feeble Western Disturbance, weather most likely to remain generally cloudy in both UTs with chances of light snowfall at scattered places of Kashmir(over higher reaches,not plains) Kargil district (Zojila-Drass, Parkachik- Penzila) and over hilly areas of Jammu region during December 23rd and 24th.” read the MeT statement.

It added, “A snow spell of greater intensity is most likely during December 26 (evening) to December 28 (forenoon) with main activity on December 27.”

While sharing an update about the cold wave, MeT said, “With rise in minimum temperature by 2-3 degrees Celsius in J&K and 4-5 degrees Celsius in Ladakh, Cold Wave abated in both UTs and will remain so till 28th December.”
