Baramulla, Apr 29: A successful completion of the first-ever total laparoscopic hysterectomy procedure was performed on a 50 year old female patient at associated hospital Government Medical College Baramulla on Monday.
An official of the department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, said that the patient was suffering from postmenopausal ovarian cyst with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB), a condition traditionally managed through open methods requiring large abdominal incisions.
He said that a team of doctors led by Chief Operating Surgeon Dr Mudasir Ahmad, (Consultant Gynaecologist) performed the procedure and the procedure was performed using only four small incisions in the abdomen, marking a significant advancement in minimally invasive surgical techniques.
The operative team include Dr Mudasir Ahmad (Consultant Gynaecologist), Associate professor Dr Waim Salman, Senior resident, Dr Arshid besides OT assistant, Abdul Hameed, Maroof Ahmad, and Misra.
“Dr Mudasir and his team undertook this complex and demanding challenge head-on, aiming to minimise the risk of complications associated with open surgeries,” said an official of the hospital.
The four-hour procedure was executed seamlessly, with an uneventful intra operative period, and the patient is currently recovering well.
