Several trains cancelled, diverted in Jammu

In view of Rail Roko (stop train) agitation by Punjab farmers, several trains were cancelled and delayed here on Sunday causing inconvenience to the passengers, particularly the Vaishno Devi pilgrims.

The Punjab farmers blocked the railway traffic at Dasua area in Punjab seeking redressal of their long pending grievances

   

A Vaishno Devi pilgrim, Ram Pyari from Ajmer, Rajasthan, who was stuck at Jammu Tawi Railway Station, said, “We had come here for paying obeisance at the cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi and had planned to reach Ajmer back via Delhi. So, we had booked Uttar SamparakKranti Express, but here at Jammu, we were told that our train has been cancelled.”  He added: We don’t have money to stay here for more than one day.”

A pilgrim from Indore, Harsh Indoreysaid, “We’re seven friends from Indore who are stuck at Jammu Tawi Rail-way Station after our train, Malwa Express was cancelled.” 

He said: “The railway authorities should make some alternatives for our further travel.” 

Station Master Jammu Railway Station, Ajay Gupta told Greater Kashmir, “Five trains from Jammu were cancelled on Sunday.

“4 Jammu-bound trains were also cancelled,” he said adding that as many as 17 trains were diverted in view of farmers’ protest.
