8 shops gutted at Fatehgarh

Baramulla: At least eight shops were gutted in a fire incident in Fatehgarh area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday night. A girls’ hostel of degree college Baramulla also suffered minor damage in a fire incident on Sunday.

An official said that fire broke out in Fatehgarh market on Saturday night. He said the fire spread fast to other shops , resulting in damage to at least eight shops.

   

The fire caused huge losses as shopkeepers could not save their belongings.

The locals however, claimed that the delay in the arrival of fire tenders caused blaze to spread fast to other shops. They said had fire tenders arrived in time, the loss could have been minimised.

“The fire tenders arrived late. Despite place being just eight kms away from the Baramulla town, it took fire tenders lot of time to reach at the spot. The delay caused massive loss in the area,” said Farooq Ahmad, a local resident.

Meanwhile, main gate of girls hostel degree college Baramulla was damaged in a fire incident on Sunday evening. Following the fire some of the girls in the hostel fell unconscious.

They were shifted by the hostel officials to the GMC Baramulla, where the provided some treatment and allowed to go back to hostel.
