Anti-encroachment drive held

Sopore: To ensure smooth traffic movement in and around Sopore town, the employees of the Municipal Council Sopore along with Police Tuesday removed encroachment by street vendors and illegal cab stands.

An official of the Municipal Council Sopore said that the streets of the town were mainly occupied by street vendors and illegal cab stands, causing traffic jams throughout the town and creating inconvenience to the pedestrians.

He said that last year street vendors had been provided with space at certain places within the town to sell their merchandise that had provided relief to the people from the traffic mess but they had again appeared and encroached upon the roads of the town, causing huge traffic jams.

“So with the help of Police, we removed the encroachments and also warned shopkeepers not to display their items outside their shops,” the official said.

He said that this was the final warning to the street vendors and cab drivers not to encroach upon the space on roads that affects the movement of traffic and people.
