Srinagar, June 20: Police on Sunday fined over 5000 persons for corona curfew violations even as restrictions continued across Kashmir on Sunday.
On Sunday streets again wore a deserted look as restrictions on movement of people and transportation remained imposed to curtail the spread of Covid-19 in Kashmir. Shops and business established on Sunday remained closed as these have been allowed to open on rotational basis between Mondays and Thursdays in Kashmir, where the number of Covid-19 positive cases has witnessed a significant decline during the last over three weeks though there was no letup in the number of deaths due to the virus.
Most of the roads and market places including LalChowk, the nerve centre of the summer capital, were sealed early on Sunday morning to prevent the movement of people. Shops and businesses established were closed though few private vehicles and three-wheelers were plying on the roads in downtown and uptown areas in Srinagar in view of the weekend curfew.
Business and other activities were crippled in central Kashmir districts of Budgam and Ganderbal where roads have been closed with barbed wires in most parts to prevent the movement of vehicles and people.
The administration on May 31 gave some relaxation in the month-long Covid curfew after significant decline in the number of positive cases in Kashmir. However, most of the district administrations, besides imposing weekend curfew have decided to continue restrictions on Fridays as well to keep the spread of the virus under check.
Reports of similar restrictions came from Sopore, Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara in north Kashmir and Shopian, Anantnag, Pulwama and Kulgam in south Kashmir. Shops and business establishment were closed and roads wore a deserted look in these districts where Police parties were patrolling in their respective areas to ensure strict implementation of the weekend curfew.
Meanwhile, continuing its efforts to curb the outbreak of of coronavirus, J&K Police has enhanced its efforts to sensitise the masses about controlling the highly contagious coronavirus.
