Srinagar, June 11: The outgoing students of Cluster University Srinagar (CUS) batch 2018 have sought their eligibility in the entrance for the admission in Post graduate programmes notified by the Kashmir University (KU) last month.
Notably, the Directorate of Admissions and Competitive Examination, KU in May last week issued a notification inviting online applications from the eligible candidates (Bachelors) for appearing in Kashmir University Entrance Test (KUET) for admission to the post graduate Programmes for the academic session 2021.
As per the KU admission notification, the candidates having passed the qualifying examination (Bachelors) with the required percentage and subject combinations reflected in the eligibility page available on the official website of the University are eligible to apply for appearing in KUET.
However, the 2018 batch of outgoing students from CUS demanded that they should be considered as eligible to appear in the KUET for admission in PG programmes.
The students demanding eligibility in the KUET for PG courses have not yet appeared in their last (6th) semester undergraduate exams.
“Our last semester exam was delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The cluster university is likely to hold our 6th semester from June 20. The result will be declared in July and we will be official eligible to go for our PG courses,” said one of the aggrieved students.
The KU had fixed the last date for submission of application forms as July 12 which was later extended till June 20.
The outgoing students however argued that their last semester UG results would be declared till the time KU will announce the result of KUET.
Also, the directorate of admissions at KU in the admission notification has stated that it will not check or verify the educational or category certificates of the candidates at the time of appearing in the written examination. It will be the responsibility of the candidate to satisfy whether he/she is meeting the prescribed criterion, the notification reads.
The KU has stated that the documents will be verified at any point of time during the process of admission and the admission will be rejected if it is found that the applicant does not fulfill the eligibility criteria or has misrepresented the information.
“The KU should consider our application on a provisional basis as was done last year. All other universities of India provide this option to students but have made an unexpected change leaving all the students in a state of despair,” the student said.
The students stated that their degree will be complete till the time KU will hold the PG entrance test and announce its result.
“But if we will not be considered to provisionally apply for the PG entrance of KU, our one academic year will go waste. Our three year course of graduation is already extended by one year due to different circumstances in Kashmir for past years,” an aggrieved student said.
The students termed the move as injustice for them saying that they cannot bear losing one academic year. “Our future is at stake and has subjected students to mental trauma,” the student said.
Registrar KU, Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir when contacted said the PG entrance was being held for students who completed their graduation till 2017. “The Cluster University students are yet to appear in their last semester exam. We cannot make them eligible for PG entrance,” he said.
He said the students want their exam to be conducted in a hurry and get their results declared as well. “They can wait as we will conduct another PG entrance in March 2022,” he said.
