Srinagar: The School Education Department has said that the student enrollment in government schools across Kashmir has increased by around 4 percent during the ongoing enrollment drive being carried out by the department.
The enrollment drive was started on November 10 after the department witnessed a dip in enrollment by 2 percent during the last academic year.
In wake of this, the department started the enrollment drive in all the districts of Kashmir to increase the student population in government schools.
According to the department, the enrollment in schools has increased by around 28,995 students till November 22.
It said that the enrollment in government schools across Kashmir was around 6.21 lakh which had increased to 6.50 lakh after carrying out the enrollment drive in every school.
The total increase in enrollment is 4 percent.
According to the department, south Kashmir’s Anantnag district has taken a lead in enrolling around 7633 students in schools which is the highest among all the districts.
It said that the enrollment in the district increased by 8.56 percent.
Anantnag district is followed by Kupwara with an increase in enrollment by 5.55 percent.
Kupwara has registered 6409 new admissions in the schools.
The schools in the Baramulla district have witnessed an increase in enrollment by 3.4 percent with the registration of 3656 new admissions in the schools.
Srinagar district has hit the bottom as the schools in the district have registered only 495 new admissions, increasing the enrollment by 1.33 percent.
The enrollment drive is still going on in all the districts.
The teachers have roped in village heads and elders of the locality to motivate the parents to enroll their kids in government schools.
