Dr Sheikh Abdul Ahad passed away

Former head of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar’s otolaryngology department and noted ear, nose and throat surgeon Dr Sheikh Abdul Ahad passed away at SKIMS last week. Known for his academic acumen and precision as a surgeon, Dr Ahad was an active practitioner till two weeks before his death. After his superannuation from GMC, he continued to provide services at a private hospital here. He took over as head of otolaryngology at GMC in September 1992 and started modern otology in Kashmir. He was also a pioneer of head and neck cancer surgeries in the department, a contribution that his colleagues and juniors hailed. Dr Ahad breathed his last at SKIMS. He is survived by three sons and a wife. He was buried at his hometown in Seelu Sopore. A condolence meeting was held at GMC Srinagar where participants prayed for the departed soul. Various other organizations also expressed grief at the loss that his death caused to medical fraternity and his family.
