On occasion of World Diabetes Day, Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) is organizing various awareness and diagnostic events to help in detection and better management of the disease. For three days, November 07, 10 and 13, SKIMS will be providing free HBA1C test and lipid profile on first come first serve basis.
The free diagnostics have been made available to help in early detection of diabetes. Patients can avail the service at OPD sample collection counter at Room no 116. Sample collection will be carried out between 09 am and 02 pm. Patients desirous of availing the facility need to come fasting overnight.
Awareness activities regarding importance of early detection of diabetes have also been planned between November 06 and 13. The focus of the activities is to educate and screen people about genetic factor in diabetes.
The events are in line with this year’s theme of diabetes day – the family and diabetes.
The department of clinical biochemistry will be carrying out goodwill activities for financially challenged patients and those with risk of developing the disease in an attempt to sensitize them about early detection, need for strict control post-detection and awareness about other measures so that it does not complicate by getting neglected the way it is seen in a significant chunk of our patients in whom negligence of this disease has huge physical, financial and psychological implications.
