Institutional academic initiatives

Comprehensive Academic Audit is concurrent in nature covering wide academic canvass. Professional academic auditors focus on initiatives at micro, macro and mega levels. In the west they beat the bench marks whereas in this part of the globe an attempt is made to meet the bench marks . An Indian student (S P Singh) in his M.Sc Economics Programme pursued at Florida University (USA) was awarded 110/100 by a Professor in a particular course of study. When the award was received by the Controller of Examinations, he contacted the secretary of the Professor for an audience. Such a practice is observed in IIMs, IITs& IISC. The professor explained that he evaluated the answer script and found it to worth 110 marks. The professor impressed upon the COE that he performed his academic activity. The Registrar / FAO, COE are custodians of procedural practices , ordinances , rules and regulations. Here the system lacks the practice of AIR assessors internal response. While designing an instrument every item in the question paper is supported by an outline detailed minimum / expected responses with due regard to value points. The faculty is not engaged in procedural practices but intellectual process. A time will come when an examinee under RTI will ask for an explanation from the university for deduction of marks, say for instance award is 70 upon 100. For this gap of 30 marks the evaluator concerned has to satisfy the examinee both under law and evaluation ethics.

Very recently Higher Education Department issued a notification authorizing college faculty for supervising doctoral research. The affiliating universities reacted against this NOC issued by the department sharply. KUTA and JUTA should have waited for. The colleges have rich faculty possessing post doc fellowships from IIMs and IITs outside the university system. By the way there are at least 36 Deans in four Academic Universities in Kashmir. They must be working on a variety of ideas. These ideas when shared will reshape and enrich Kashmir society. This hypothesis is to be verified. It may prove true or otherwise. It is noteworthy that the faculty at SKIMS and SKUAST through their research engagements make human life easy.

   

A set of ten old private schools has been in operation in Kashmir for almost last hundred forty years. Bisco School, Islamia High School, St. Joseph School, Hanfiya School, Khalsa School, Hindu High School, Burn Hall, Presentation Convent, National School, DAV School. These schools have been working in a mission more in pursuance of their respective visions. Islamia High School brought in convergence between tradition and modernity with due support of axiology (aesthetics, Etiquette, Ethics).The full dress band of the school is life in human memories. All these schools may focus to review and sustain all these best practices to churn out responsible and  well disciplined citizens to serve the society in different walks of life.

To conclude a university teaches tolerance and respect for divergent opinion. Central universities are not a replica of state universities but lead universities under an act of parliament in its geographical area leading to knowledge growth.  The universities are established across the globe to generate the innovative ideas to help humanity at large. Please do not shrink intellectual space.
