Bears on prowl at Nehru Park, Gagribal

Srinagar, June 23: Residents of Nehru Park and Old Gagribal areas here have expressed concern over frequent intrusion of bears into residential areas here.

A group of residents said that wild animals particularly bears enter residential areas posing risk to their lives. They said three bears were spotted in the premises of Receiving Station at Gagribal last night.

“There is panic in our areas due to presence of bears. We avoid venturing out during morning and evening hours. Though a team of Wildlife department reached the spot and installed cage, but the bears escaped into nearby forest. These bears later returned after the team left. Wild animals enter residential areas as the chain-link fencing between at the boundary of forests is damaged,” they said.

“We make a fervent appeal to authorities to repair the chain-link fencing and also raise its height to prevent entry of wild animals into residential areas,” they said.
