Workshop on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome held at SKIMS

Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) organized a workshop on “Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)” here.

The workshop was organised under the aegis of ICMR-PCOSNational Task Force Study, for which SKIMS is the Coordinating Centre for the wholecountry. SKIMS spokesperson in a statement said the event witnessedparticipation of students and teachers from a number of colleges anduniversities across the valley.

   

Director SKIMS & Ex-Officio Secretary to Government,Prof. Omar Javed Shah in his addresses said that SKIMS is striving hard tofulfill its role as leader in healthcare. He said such programes will go longway in helping towards accomplishing the goal. He appreciated Prof. AshrafGanie and his team for organizing educative workshop.

Prof. Shariq Masoodi enlightened the audience with aninformative talk on the role of “Diet & Physical activity in PCOS”. Theworkshop proceeded with various presentations on Gynecological issues,Psychiatric co-morbidities, Role of USG in PCOS by Dr. Saima Wani, Dr. ArshidHussain and Dr. Saika Amreen respectively.

The students started with documentary on SKIMS developmentsin the area of PCOS. The event commenced with welcome address by Dr. AafiaRashid, senior Research Officer, Clinical Research Laboratory, SKIMS and anintroduction to ICMR-PCOS Task Force Study by Dr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Wani,Scientist-B, Clinical Research Laboratory, SKIMS.  He gave a detailed presentation on thegenesis of the task Force and the work plan and progress achieved so far. Theevent was followed by detailed presentation on the genesis of presentation on”PCOS in India- a thrust area of research by Prof M. Ashraf Ganie, chiefcoordinator of this flagship project of ICMR. He gave a primer on the metabolicand endocrine aspects of PCOS. He said that the multiple epidemics of lifestyle diseases are going on.At the end of the event awards were distributedby Director SKIMS, Prof. O. J. Shah, in addition to felicitation of therepresentatives of participating institutions/departments.
