‘5 years on, GHS Sangiote building awaits completion’

Even after five years since the work was started on it, the new building of Government High School (GHS), Sangiote, waits to be completed, the residents claimed.

The inhabitants of Sangiote village, in Mendhar sub-division of Poonch district, while ruing the delay, demanded a probe.

The local sarpanch, Mukhtayaz Khan, said, “The work on the new building was started in 2013. By 2014, the work was almost completed and the building could have been put into use. But there has been unwanted delay ever since.”

He, alongwith other locals, alleged, “The building was a much needed one as the children are suffering due to lack of adequate space in the old building. The new building has neither been put into use and nor has been completed. The situation is so bad that rainwater leaks into the building through the roof.”

The headmaster of the school, Mohammad Younis, told Greater Kashmir, “We are in need of extra classrooms as the space present in the old building is not sufficient. The new building is of supreme importance as far as the villagers are concerned.”

The locals, while alleging “poor construction”, demanded a probe into the delay in completion of the new building.

On being contacted by Greater Kashmir, chief education officer, Poonch, said that he has asked the zonal education planning officer of the concerned zone to submit a detailed report within two days.
