BGSBU road widening: Authorities start land acquisition process

The concerned authorities have started the process of land acquisition for widening the present road between Rajouri town and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University.

An official told Greater Kashmir that the project for widening of the university road was recently approved and the principal secretary, finance, made the formal announcement on Wednesday.

   

The present road from Rajouri town to university campus in Dhanore is a seven-kilometre stretch. Under the new project, the road will be widened and a two-lane road will be constructed, the official said, adding that the project has been approved at an estimated cost of Rs 1816.14 lakhs and will start soon, as the tendering process is going on.

He further said that a team of revenue department and public works (roads and building) department started land acquisition process on Saturday. “A joint verification of the road stretch was launched and till Saturday evening, three kilometres of the stretch has been inspected,” he said.

“The aim of the verification is to inform the revenue authorities about the alignment on which the road will be widened, so that they can prepare the papers for allotting land compensation to the owners,” he said.

The deputy commissioner, Rajouri, Mohammad AijazAsad, also confirmed that the process of land acquisition has been started.
