Inhabitants of Balakote area close to Line of Control inMendhar sub-division spent sleepless night due to nightlong shelling thatrattled the entire area with locals terming it as deadliest shelling till date.
Things were good till 10 PM on Thursday late evening butsituation worsened from then onwards, sarpanch Balakote, Majid Chowdhary toldGreater Kashmir.
He added, “During three hours of heavy shelling, aroundsix to eight dozen high intensity shells exploded in our villages and it washorrible.”
Local sarpanch further said that it was not a routine mortarshelling but they are very much sure that heavy artillery shells were fired ontheir area.
Another local, Ayaz Ahmed said that everyone in Balakotespent sleepless night due to very high intensity shelling.
“All of us spent sleepless night with number of shellslanding in the area causing severe panic,” Ayaz Ahmed said further adding,”No one among politicians or administration is taking care of us and weare left on the mercy of God.”
“My house is located in the shelling affected zone andI did not manage to talk to them over phone for over two hours and cannot makeyou understand how difficult was it for me,” a government employee fromBalakote posted in Jammu told Greater Kashmir.
