ELECTION DUTY; Clear air on extra salary for security forces: Personnel urge Governor

Security force personnel, especially officials of Jammu and Kashmir police, posted in Rajouri and Poonch districts, appealed to the Governor administration to clear the air regarding extra salary for performing election duty.

An order announcing one month extra salary to the officials deployed on election duty was issued on Thursday, with a set of directions to identify all the officials who performed duty in panchayat and municipal elections. However, in the order, nothing was mentioned about the salary for security force personnel, putting them in dilemma.

“The government should clear the air and bring an end to our dilemma,” a large number of personnel, wishing anonymity, told Greater Kashmir. They said, “When extra salary was announced for officials on poll duty by the chief secretary in a press conference before the polls, he did not mention us. His generalized statement put us in a dilemma, which still stands as the order issued on Thursday did not clear it as well.” They maintained, “If extra salary is being given to government officials for election duty, why not us? We also are applicable as we performed our duties as well.”
