Locals lock Galhan High School again for want of staff

For the second time in the last two weeks, villagers and civil society members from Galhan village of Teryath on Tuesday locked the local high school to lodge their protest against shortage of staff.

A number of villagers, along with parents of students studying in the school, assembled in the school premises and staged a demonstration. They also locked some of the rooms.

The agitating people, while talking to Greater Kashmir, said, “There is severe shortage of teaching staff in the school. There are only six teachers posted for 165 students. One among the teachers is the school head and he only looks after the administrative works. How are 5 teachers going to teach all the students?”

They claimed that time and again they raised the issue with the authorities, including zonal education officer Moughla and chief education officer, but nothing was done.

They protesters warned that they would keep the school locked, until and unless additional staff is provided.

Chief education officer Rajouri Lal Hussain, while talking to Greater Kashmir, said that he talked to the villagers and assured them that the required additional staff would be provided within a few days.
