Manjakote dharna continues, highway blocked again

The ongoing dharna in Manjakote, under the banner of Joint Action Committee, continued on Friday as well and the locals blocked the Jammu-Poonch highway for over 45 minutes.

The protest started in early morning hours and a number of locals, including senior citizens sat on a dharna. The protesters also raised slogans against the government and alleged that areas with only one Higher Secondary School have been listed for a degree college, while Manjakote, which has over five Higher Secondary Schools has been ignored. 

   

Meanwhile, during the afternoon, locals assembled on the Jammu-Poonch highway and blocked it for traffic. The agitating locals said that the government is playing with their sentiments, besides its silence is spreading a wave of dissatisfaction among the residents.

The protest lasted for over 45 minutes after which a team led by Assistant Commissioner, along with Additional Police Superintendent, visited the spot and and pacified the people. They assured the protesters that the district administration has already communicated all their demands to the government.

Although the officers appealed to JAC to suspend the strike, but the members declined and vowed to continue the agitation until their demands are met.
