Nearly seven months after its burial, body of a man hailing from Kotli Gujaran village of Pakistan administered Kashmir was exhumed on Tuesday from a graveyard at Mohra Kampala village of Nowshera, here.
An official told Greater Kashmir that the body was recovered on 23 July 2018 at Jhanger forward village of Nowshera sector on the Line of Control, and was shifted to Nowshera sub district hospital. A case FIR 147/2018 under relevant law was registered at Nowshera police station.
“As the body remained unidentified after initial investigation, it was buried in Mohra Kampala village of Nowshera located close to Line of Control in Lam area,” the official said.
He said later during the investigation it came to fore that the deceased was a resident of Kotli Gujaran village of PaK and was identified as Mohammad Arshad son of Mohammad Shabir.
“His family also approached Pakistan army who in turn contacted Indian army and demanded that the body be handed over to his family for performing last rites at his native village in PaK,” the official said.
He said the body was exhumed on the orders of the district magistrate.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, in presence of the police, the army, the civil administration and the health department officers, the body was exhumed.
“It took almost three hours to exhume the body and it had decomposed,” Zaheer Ahmed, a Panch from Mohra Kampala said.
Dr. Liyaqit Hussain, who was heading a team of doctors told Greater Kashmir that some body parts “were taken for the DNA sampling and later the body was handed over to police for further course of action.”
Additional SP Nowshera said the body was later given to the army for its further handover to Pakistan army.
