Poonch LoC residents protest against water scarcity

People living close to the Line of Control in Reelan village of Balakote in Poonch Wednesday took to roads against prevailing water scarcity in their area.

A number of local villagers including ladies and children assembled on Mendhar-Balakote road and blocked it near Reelan shrine.

Raising slogans against Public Health Engineering department, they said that they have been suffering badly due to water scarcity.

Locals claimed that in 2002 a water reservoir was constructed in their area but PHE department failed to make the water supply scheme functional.

“We approached politicians and administrative officers time and again but of no use,” the residents said.

Later, sub-divisional magistrate Mendhar Dr. Tanveer Khan assured that the matter will be resolved at the earliest, after which the protest was called off.

Reelan village of Mendhar is located on LoC and is often affected with cross-border shelling.
