Power supply disrupted across Pir Panchal

Snowfall was recorded in the higher reaches of Pir Panchal region, while the plains were lashed by heavy rains on Saturday. 

The mountains across the region, including DewalMarag, Thai Marag, Lapri Top, Nikan Top and Wanhang, continued to receive snowfall.

   

Meanwhile, in the plains, heavy rainfall, accompanied by lightning, led to disruption in power supply as several transformers, electric poles and wires were damaged.

Executive engineer of power development division RajouriMunshi Khan told Greater Kashmir that due to heavy rainfall during the last three days, a number of faults have been developed in the power infrastructure. “While most of the faults have been removed, repair work on the rest is going on,” he said, adding, “Due to lightning, a number of power transformers suffered damages. So far 15 such damages have been reported and the number is expected to swell by Sunday morning.”

He further said that the 11 KVA and 33 KVA power wiring is also damaged at some sites. “The main power feeder of Kotranka and Budhal villages was restored after more than 24 hours, but the power supply to Khawas village continues to remain snapped,” he said.

Similarly, in Poonch, bad weather conditions have led to severe power crisis as the main 132 KVA and 33 KVA power lines of district developed faults.

Executive engineer of power development division PoonchMaqboolNaik told Greater Kashmir, “Bad weather conditions have severely affected the power supply in Poonch district. Power crisis has been going on since more than 36 hours, but we are trying to restore it as fast as possible. Though the power supply was suspended in majority of the areas, but we have managed to restore it in some areas.”

Similar reports were received from Reasi district.
